Research at IMPGT

recherche-impgt.jpg

Research at the Institute of Public Management and Territorial Governance is firmly focused on the actors and organizations that actively contribute to the smooth functioning of society. The research conducted examines management situations, analyzes theoretical and empirical problems, and proposes managerial solutions to enable organizations to operate effectively at the local, national, or international level.

Studies and research focus on both nonprofit organizations and private companies with specific ties to the public sector. In this sense, public management contributes to the understanding and management of the major challenges facing contemporary society, whether they involve economic development, social equity, or the fight against climate change.

Through their research, the team of faculty members, researchers, and doctoral students contributes to advancing knowledge and management practices in sectors as diverse as economic development, attractiveness, and innovation; social action; education; health; safety and risk management; the environment and sustainable development; culture; and international cooperation.

These fields are active with public organizations (government agencies, local governments, metropolitan areas), quasi-public organizations (chambers of commerce, agencies), and private organizations (associations, NGOs, businesses), whose decisions, actions, and challenges are studied at the Institute. Research in public management therefore covers a wide range of collective market and non-market activities. These are constantly evolving to adapt to new constraints in their environment. They are the subject of in-depth, rigorous investigations that result in research publications. The originality and relevance of this research are recognized by both practitioners in the field and the scientific community.

  • The Strengths of Research at the IMPGT

A close and ongoing connection between research and academic education, close ties with practitioners in the field, and a commitment to international engagement.

All members of the research team—including faculty members and doctoral students—are deeply involved in the education of IMPGT students, from the bachelor’s degree through the doctoral program. This facilitates the dissemination of the results of the most recent and innovative research to public managers of today (continuing education) and tomorrow (undergraduate education).

Research Conducted at the Request of Organizations

In addition, our team has conducted numerous research projects commissioned by organizations (organizational or regional assessments, strategic and prospective analysis, impact studies and evaluations, etc.).

    A Pervasive International Dimension

This is reflected, on the one hand, in the conduct of international comparative studies or research contracts, particularly at the European level. Examples include participation in European research programs (Horizon 2020, INTERREG), and, on the other hand, the participation of team members in major European, Mediterranean, and international research networks.
