In 2026, Aix-Marseille Université's Institut de Management Public et Gouvernance Territoriale (IMPGT) celebrates its 30th anniversary!
For 30 years, the IMPGT has been developing training and scientific research in public management, serving the general interest, public organizations and public policies. The IMPGT is the only UFR in France to specialize in public management, giving it a unique position in the academic world of management sciences.
True to its DNA, the IMPGT is making this anniversary a year-long highlight, with a series of events bringing together students, alumni, partners and institutional players: conferences, workshops, round tables and convivial moments. These festivities are embodied by a logo specially created for the occasion.
A word from the director
Christophe ALAUX
"30 years is a fine age for an unidentified object in the French university landscape. Today, the IMPGT brand radiates throughout the Aix-Marseille metropolitan and regional area, France and the rest of the world.
Like all innovative projects, the initial idea was ahead of its time, probably a little too much so. However, the self-sacrifice of its founders and its emblematic director, Professor Robert Fouchet, enabled it to make its way through the LMD tunnel, within much more institutionalized training and research units, and with a professional outlook that at the time was out of step with university UFRs.
Today, we are celebrating 30 years of development and constancy, because the guidelines of this project have remained on the same rails that we continue to lay, always following the same direction: the student, scientific excellence, the proximity of administrative and teaching teams, professionalization and values that have flourished: the collective, conviviality, trust, quality and solidarity.
After 21 years with the IMPGT (6 as Director of Studies, 5 as Deputy Director and 8? as Director), I'm convinced of one thing. French public universities need more IMPGTs, and so do the public sector and local authorities. It is this conviction that I will continue to uphold in the development of the IMPGT over the coming years.

May 21 at IMPGT | MESS Conference
In a context marked by a growing lack of attractiveness of the care and support professions, both in the medical and medico-social sectors, the aim of this day is to open up a space for reflection and dialogue around the levers for improving the commitment and recognition of these essential professions. Organized by students in the Master's in Public Management (MESS) program, the event aims to encourage exchanges between paramedical and socio-educational staff, managers in the sector and researchers, in order to cross-fertilize viewpoints, share field experience and compare scientific and managerial approaches. The day will be structured around two round-table discussions, focusing on the current challenges of attractiveness and the outlook for professional development, as well as a number of participative workshops designed to explore concrete avenues for action. This event is intended to be a time for collective reflection, in the service of the future of the care and support professions.

September online | OTACC Chair Podcast - Season 4
On the occasion of the IMPGT's 30th anniversary, this new season is at once a work of memory, transmission and experimentation. It questions the way in which cultural management is transforming itself in a context of multiple transitions: ecological, social, economic, digital and institutional. The project aims to bring together academic research, sound practice and student experience to build a collective voice on culture in mutation. Each episode becomes a space for situated reflection, produced from analyses made in essays on societal transitions and extended by writing and recording work. The episodes will be broadcast on Radio Grenouille and on the institutional channels of the IMPGT and Aix-Marseille University.

October at IMPGT | Improbable seminar
Students in the Master 2 Public Management program will be taking part in a new edition of the Séminaire Improbable, an Art Thinking experience that invites them to rethink public action through artistic creation. For three days, they will explore the improbable in the manner of artists, through lectures, workshops and critical sessions. They will create contemporary works of art that question our relationship with public service and society, and open up perspectives on public management thirty years into the future. The seminar will close with an ephemeral exhibition, during which visitors will be able to discover original creations, conceived as veritable "visual thoughts".
